Picture.com Hoax BEWARE

I found this site one day and uploaded a photo. I thought to my self what the heck. (right) Then I started getting emails and what not they were telling me all this stuff about my photo being great. They said it was going into a hall of fame. But they were asking for money so I got the idea to GOOGLE it.(picture.com Hoax) I found that it is a scam. They gave my email out and then I got a tone of spam. Then when I took my email off the list. They started mailing me at home. I am posting this because one of my friends also fell prey to the LIE this company presents so please pass this along to other artist hoping to stop people from using their FAKE site.





It is especially hard to dismiss the Picture com scam website and the possibility of it making you rich and famous when you come across the page of all of the supposed competition photos. It is easy to find yourself comparing your work to others and thinking to yourself, "Hmm.. well if that got accepted I bet mine might have a chance." And then, in spite of yourself, you've given them your contact info and uploaded a photo just in case it really is a great opportunity.

Well once you submit the photo, you can forget about the International Library of Photography and Picture.com leaving you alone. Next comes an onslaught of solicitation emails that do not outright beg for your money but instead request it subtly. In fact, had I not had a similar experience with another company, Poetry.com, whom I am now skeptical about the possible relationship between it and Picure.com, I would very likely have completely fallen for this hoax. Here's how they get you:

Picture com scam artists have news for you once a week or so that gets increasingly more exciting as the time goes on. I cannot recall the exact tempting wording that they use to try and win you over but basically they more or less inform you that your photo has been nominated for some prestigious exclusive sounding award. Then with the next correspondence you are in the Hall of Fame of the great International Library of Photography. Then in the next, an Editors Choice Award you have won. And so on. These honors they have given me for a photo I foolishly resorted to submitting to the contest before I clued into the trickery just keep coming and coming.

You might be thinking that Picture.com sounds anything but fraudulent or misleading but that fact is precisely why they have managed to get away with this so-called contest for so long and have done so within their legal rights. The reason they can get away with this is because anyone can hold a contest.

But in this case, instead of dolling out thousands in monetary awards, Picture.com does a little something different for their prizes. They offer to glamorize your name and photo in their beautiful hard cover book which will be sold at all major bookstores when published. They use excited wording and frequent exclamation points in attempt to hype you up for this supposed fame you are soon to recognize.
